Hello All,
I found the loving-kindness exercise beneficial because it allowed me to shift my feelings and the images in my head to a place that was more comfortable. I had a hard time visualizing a loved one who was suffering because I feel like I need to be there with them in person to help them; I did not feel of any assistance to them just by merely having them in my thoughts. I know later on in the exercise it allows us the opportunity to think of ways help relieve that persons suffering, but if it was up to me, I would jump straight to that step.
I think conducting a mental work out is very beneficial because it gives us the opportunity to transform our emotions such as, anger, hatred, fear, worry, and confusion into positive emotions such as, patience, loving-kindness, openness, acceptance, and happiness. I think giving ourselves a mental work out is beneficial to wholeness and well-being (Dacher, 2006).
I still think it is amazing how the mind and body work together, before starting school I did not know much about mind-body connection, but mind over matter is definitely starting to make sense more and more these days!! i would recommend this loving-kindness exercise to people who are stressed out because it gives them a chance to calm the mind and flush out any unwanted negative thoughts and focus their attention on positive emotions.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteJoncie I like your blog at the same time I know the feeling of visualizing a love one being ill my dad, I lost him back in "2008" I notice you will receive strength as time goes on. At that time I was sick myself. It takes time but the exercise is a essential tool to restore and rejuvenate your mind and restore that inner peace and this for sure is worth it practicing every day "Loving Kindness". God Bless You on your Journey

Joncie,
ReplyDeleteThis exercise came at an excellent time for me to learn to focus my healing energy on others. I have a friend who's daughter was in a horrific accident and is still as of yet in a coma, a lot unknown still as to how her injuries will affect her but it felt great to send positive energy her way. It's going to take a lot of time to get good at these exercises I'm sure. Good luck.

I like the blog that you have posted here, i also feel that this is a great exercise, although i think that just to think about love and loving others dose not help in the long run, the reason that i say this is love is an action, it has to be performed to others. So just to visualize it is not the right way to feel better about yourself. We have to love others, at that point we will begin to feel better about who we are as a person.
