Crime of the Century-Unit 3

Hello All,
After reflecting on my physical, spiritual, and psychological well being, I would rate my physical well being as an 8, my spiritual well being as a 6, and my psychological well being as a 9. Physically speaking I am in good shape, I work out 4-6 times a week and eat healthy. I rated my physical well being as an 8 because I want to quit to smoking. Having this horrible habit prevents me from exercising to my fullest potential. As for my spiritual well-being, I always think there is room for improvement when it comes to believing in a higher power. Psychologically speaking I feel confident. Obviously my physically well-being goal is to quit smoking. I would definitely set a goal for attending church more as a spiritual goal. I think starting a journal would benefit me psychologically. Implementing church more into my life would also help me psychologically. I have already started moving towards my goal of quitting smoking. I made a deal with my mom that if she lost 15 pounds I would quit smoking. We keep each other accountable this way.
I thought the Crime of the Century exercise was relaxing at the beginning but I started to get distracted trying to focus on all seven of the focus points and trying to remember which colors went with what body regions. I think this exercise would have been more relaxing if we focused on one or two body regions and associated them with colors, rather than having seven to focus on. All in all, I enjoyed this exercise, but it was not as relaxing as the first one we did.

  1. Joncie,
I think your goals are realistic. I have used accountability to reach many of my fitness goals, and I use them to this day. I have used journals but only in times when I am severely overwhelmed and I just need a safe outlet with out the fear of others looking or judging me. I think those are great from some people and for others, like myself, only beneficial part of the time. Play around with what works for you. A friend of mine used suckers to help her kick the habit and now she can't do suckers, just another idea. As far as our exercise went I still could not stay alert for the entire exercise. I think I get to relaxed and slip into something other then sleep but still relaxed. It is weird. It really makes me nervous because I am leaving myself open to suggestions that I am not in control of.
    Good Luck with quitting smoking!

  2. Joncie,

I think it is admirable that you recognize smoking is bad for your health and not going to help you get to a place of total well being. I am ten days smoke free today, so I know what a struggle it can be. I feel that teaming up with your mom so that you both reach healthier goals is a great way to get motivated and not feel alone in the journey. As you said, you can hold each other accountable. Good luck!!

  3. Joncie,
Quitting smoking is an admirable goal and absolutely doable. I quit almost 9 years ago, cold turkey and survived. You also have the added benefit of already following an exercise regime so would not likely gain weight when you quit. For your sake I hope your mother achieves her goal soon :). Just remember, once you make it past the 3rd day, the addiciton is broken, then all you have to do is to avoid the habit. I don't quite understand the concept of spirituality but in my mind there is so much more to it than believing in a higher power.

  4. I am so glad to hear that you are quitting smoking! That is awesome! It is not easy, but I know that you can do it! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers : ) Like you said, there is always room for improvement--in all aspects of our lives. I hope that we can use these blogs for a source of encouragement and accountability in reaching our goals. Good luck to you!!!

  5. Hi Joncie!

I hope you're able to quit smoking. I only stopped because I was pregnant with my son who's now 24. I tried to quit THREE times before that and failed each time. I guess it was meant for me to stop smoking then. Now that I have a lung disease, I am an advocate for non-smoking. I think at first I was a little preachy and had to find the balance of letting be where they are and expressing a true concern for their health. I have five children and three of them smoke cigarettes. Of course, I do preach to them because I can! LOL But my point to them is that their mother has a lung disease so it's not like they don't have real proof of the ills of smoking. I can definitely see where it would be hard to concentrate on all of the colors. I kept forgetting the root chakra (the one in the back...LOL). It's great that you & your Mom had partnered up and made each other accountability partners. That is also something that I want to do to help me reach my goals.
