Unit 8

Hello Everybody,
I found the meditation and visualization exercises the most beneficial because both of the exercises really put my mind into relaxation mode. The meditation exercise was the more difficult out of the two because I can sometimes have a hard time relaxing and concentrating on a specific area of my life. I especially enjoyed the visualization exercise because it made me thankful for the positive people in my life. Being able to visualize those types of people really created a sense of inner peace and thankfulness. These two exercises help with my personal mental fitness because it forces me to outweigh the bad and replace these negative thoughts with positive thoughts. For example, I have started looking at negative situations from a different, more positive perspective. If I am feeling overwhelmed, I am learning to stop, take a second and view the "problem" or situation from a more positive outlook or perspective (glass half full perspective). Being able to function this way has allowed a better self control of my thoughts and feels, which in turn, reduces the stress levels in my life!

  1. Joncie,
These are two that I truly enjoyed as well; however, mine have to be unguided. I had to start changing my perspective 11 years ago when I was going through some very times. Finding the positive has been my life preserver ever since. No matter how small the positive is once it is found I can find more no matter how grim the situation. It amazes me to this day when I see people suffering how they wallow in the negative and they cannot seem to find a single a positive. I try to help them but it is they who must find it to find the peace they deserve. I am hoping with more meditation practice my cup will always seem more then half full. Best of Luck!

    1. Kristie,

I have always tried to live my life in the half-full mode. I also am amazed when people cannot dig themselves out of the negative spots they are in. I guess it comes from my upbrining. I was always taught, the Lord is in control and he has a plan. His love for us is immeasurable and everything has a purpose for His glory. And, my parents always said, there is someone worse off than you, so appreciate what you have. So, i see the good and the light in every dark time. I hope your meditation practice will lead you to feel the same.

      Thanks,

      Sandy N.

  2. Awesome Joncie…

Sometimes to accomplish the smallest of things we have to be very attentive to that very thing. Our contemplative practices are no different, carving out the time and space to calm the mind. I love your glass-half-full approach, taking our lemons and then making lemonade, right.

As we mature into our practices we will began to visualize our entire systems whole, healthy, and happy, experiencing human flourishing as Dacher so succinctly put it, it’s encouraging.

It’s also invigorating to recall the happy times, and love ones in the midst of trying times, it does makes us appreciative.

    Thanks for sharing…

  3. Great post,

I felt that meditation and visualization are most beneficial also. It definitely allows you to release negative energy and thoughts. The hardest part for me is maintaining focus and ignoring distractions. Have you found that your stress level has deceased since you have been meditating?
